Why is my Google Business Profile not showing up?
By Ash, Founder, HosteazePublished 2 min read
The short answer
Most profiles that don't show up are not verified yet, still under review, suspended for breaking a guideline, or competing with a duplicate. If none of those apply, the profile is probably live but not ranking for that search, usually because of distance, a weak category choice or too few reviews. Search your business name and town to tell which.

"Not showing up" covers two quite different problems. Either Google isn't displaying your profile at all, or it's live but doesn't appear for the searches you care about. The fix depends on which, so test that first.
How do I tell which problem I have?
- Open a private browser window, so your own history doesn't skew the results.
- Search for your exact business name plus your town, such as "Harbour Lane Bakery Whitby".
- If your profile appears on the right (or at the top on a phone), it's live. Your issue is ranking, so skip to the last section.
- If it doesn't appear, sign in to the Google Account that manages it and search my business. Google shows your profile with its status.
What stops a profile appearing at all?
| Cause | How to spot it | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Not verified | A Get verified button on your profile | Complete one of the verification methods offered |
| Still under review | You verified in the last few days | Wait. Google says reviews take up to five business days |
| Suspended or disabled | A notice on the profile and usually an email | Fix the guideline breach, then use the appeals tool |
| Duplicate profile | Two listings for the same business | Keep one and ask Google to remove the other |
| Edit under review | A recent change to name, address or category | Wait for the review, or re-verify if asked |
| Virtual office or PO box | Your address is a mailbox or rented address | Not eligible. Switch to a service-area profile if you travel to customers |
Suspensions are the one people panic about. The usual triggers are keywords added to the business name, an address you don't operate from, or more than one profile for the same location. When you appeal, Google suggests attaching evidence such as a business registration, a utility bill or a tax certificate, with the name and address matching the profile exactly. Appeals can only be submitted once, so gather everything first.
Why is my live profile not ranking?
Google says local results mainly depend on relevance, distance and prominence. In practice that means:
- Distance. A searcher three miles away sees businesses near them first. You can't change this, but you can stop testing from your own desk.
- Category. If you're a "Bakery" but chose "Coffee shop", you'll miss bakery searches. Pick the most specific category for your core business.
- Incomplete profile. Google says complete, accurate profiles are more likely to show. Add hours, services, photos and a description.
- Few reviews. More reviews and positive ratings can help, according to Google. See how to get more Google reviews without breaking the rules.
- Mismatched details. An old address on directories muddies the picture. Fix your NAP consistency.

Frequently asked questions
How long after verification does my profile appear?
Google says verification reviews take up to five business days, occasionally longer. Once you get the confirmation email, the profile can appear, though ranking for general searches can take longer than ranking for your own name.
Should I create a new profile if mine is suspended?
No. Google says not to create a new profile for the same business. Fix the problem and use the appeals tool instead, because duplicates make suspensions worse, not better.
Why do I see my profile but my customers don't?
Usually distance. Local results depend on where the searcher is, so you'll see yourself at your desk while a customer five miles away sees closer competitors. Ask someone in another area to search, or check the Performance figures in your profile.
