Add and edit DNS records
What A, CNAME, MX and TXT records are, and how to add them.
DNS records are the entries that connect your domain name to services. If your domain uses our nameservers, you manage them in the control panel under Domains then DNS.
Add a record
- Choose Add record.
- Pick the type, type the name and the value, and save.
- Changes normally appear within minutes but can take longer to reach everyone because of caching.
Change a record
Press the pencil next to a record, change what you need (the value, the name, the time to live) and choose Save changes. The record is changed in place, so there is no need to delete it and add it again. If we can't publish the change, the record goes back to how it was and you'll see an error.
The common types
| Type | What it does | Example |
|---|---|---|
| A | Points a name to a server's address | @ or www pointing to our server's address |
| CNAME | Makes one name an alias of another | www pointing to yourdomain.com |
| MX | Says where email for the domain goes | mail.hosteaze.com with priority 10 |
| TXT | Holds text, used for email security and verification | an SPF or DKIM record, or a verification code |
Email records you should leave alone
If your email is with us, do not delete these:
- the MX record
- a TXT record starting
v=spf1(SPF) - a TXT record at
default._domainkey(DKIM) - a TXT record at
_dmarcif present
Removing them can send your email to spam or stop it arriving.
Tip. Using Google, Microsoft or a newsletter service as well? Their instructions give you records to add here; add them alongside ours rather than replacing.
