Your free SSL certificate (the padlock)
What the certificate does, when it appears and what to do if it does not.
An SSL certificate makes your website load over https and shows the padlock in the browser. Every Hosteaze website gets a free certificate that renews itself.
When does it appear?
A certificate can only be issued once your domain points at our server. Until then visitors can see a "not secure" or "connection is not private" warning. It is normal straight after you move a domain. We issue it automatically, or we do it for you as part of the move.
Check your certificate
Open Security in the control panel. It shows who issued the certificate, when it started and when it expires.
Still showing a warning?
- Make sure the domain's nameservers or A record point at us. See Point your domain.
- Make sure www.yourdomain.com points at us as well. The certificate covers both.
- Give it a few hours after any DNS change, then tell us if it persists.
