Your card and automatic renewal

Save a card, turn automatic renewal on or off for each website, and what to do if a payment fails.

Save a card

  1. Open Billing in your account dashboard.
  2. Find Payment method and choose to add a card.

We never see your full card number: it is kept by our payment provider, and we only show the card type and last four digits.

Automatic renewal

With automatic renewal on for a website, the saved card is charged for that website's renewal invoice, so you do not have to remember. With it off, you are emailed each invoice and pay it yourself before the due date.

You can switch it on or off for each website separately:

  • on the Billing page, or
  • in the website's control panel under Settings.

It does not change the price or the renewal date. If an invoice is unpaid 14 days after its due date, the website is paused whichever way you pay.

If a payment fails

You are emailed straight away with the reason and a link to pay by hand. We try the card again on a later day. The usual causes are an expired card, not enough funds, or the bank asking for extra confirmation.

To fix it for next time, replace the card on the Billing page.

A card that expires before your renewal

Check the expiry date under Payment method. A card is good until the end of the month printed on it. If it ends before your renewal date, add a new card before then so the charge does not fail.

Remove your card

Choose Remove under Payment method. Any website with automatic renewal on will then need paying by hand, so the page warns you first.
