Scheduled tasks (cron jobs)

Run a script automatically every hour, day or week.

A cron job runs a command on a schedule, for example to send a daily report or run WordPress's background tasks.

  1. Open Tools in the control panel.
  2. Under Scheduled tasks choose Add.
  3. Pick how often it should run, and enter the command.
  4. Save.

Jobs run as your website's own user, so they can only touch your own files.

Example: WordPress scheduled posts

WordPress normally runs its tasks when someone visits. To run them reliably, add a task every 15 minutes with the command:

php /path/to/your/wp-cron.php

Use the path to your own website, shown in the Files section.

Note. Tasks that run too often, or run for too long, use up shared server resources. Choose the longest gap that does the job.
