Change your PHP version and settings
Pick the PHP version your website runs on and adjust memory, upload size and time limits.
Websites written in PHP, including WordPress, run on a particular PHP version. Newer versions are faster and safer, but older websites sometimes need an older version to work.
Change the version
- Open Tools in the control panel.
- Find PHP version, choose a version and save.
- Reload your website to check it still works. If it shows an error, switch back to the previous version.
Tip. If you see a white page or an error mentioning "fatal error" straight after changing version, one of your plugins or themes is too old for the new version. Go back to the older version and update the plugin.
Change limits
Under Tools you can also change:
- Memory limit: how much memory one page can use. Raise it if you see "Allowed memory size exhausted".
- Upload size: the biggest file you can upload through your website.
- Maximum run time: how long a page may run before it is stopped. Raise it for long imports.
Very high values slow the whole server for everyone, so choose what you need rather than the maximum.
