Databases

Create and manage the databases your website uses.

Most dynamic websites, including WordPress, store their content in a MySQL (MariaDB) database.

See your databases

Open Databases in the control panel. You will see each database, the user it uses and how many you have out of your plan's allowance.

Create or delete a database

  1. Choose Create database.
  2. Give it a name and a password for its user.
  3. Save. The name and user are shown so you can paste them into your website's settings.

Deleting a database permanently erases its data. Only do this if you are certain.

Connecting your website

Websites connect to localhost using the database name, username and password. For WordPress these live in wp-config.php.

Browsing or editing the data inside

Choose phpMyAdmin next to a database. It opens in a new tab, already signed in, showing that database and no one else’s. From there you can look at tables, search and edit rows, run queries and import or export data.

  • The sign-in is a one-time link that works for about a minute, so you never type a username or password. If it says the link has expired, close the tab and press the button again.
  • Your session ends after an hour or when you close it.
  • You cannot delete the whole database from phpMyAdmin (use Delete on the Databases page for that).

Warning. Changes in phpMyAdmin are instant and cannot be undone. Export the table first if you are unsure, and think twice before running a query that deletes or updates many rows.
